“Today’s Family” show to feature American Dental Hygienists’ Association
by Anonymous

Deerfield Beach, FL June 26, 2004 -- Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association for its innovative, educational television series, Today’s Family. It will be featured in a segment on Lifestyle Enhancement--“The Perfect Smile.”

A dental hygienist is the frontline of defense for prevention of problems within one’s mouth. They help maintain the teeth and gums so that one can display a dazzling smile. Dental hygienists are licensed oral health care professionals whose preventative services limit the extent of cavities and periodontal disease—in other words, they are responsible for more than a good teeth cleaning. The services a dental hygienist provides include taking X-rays, providing fluoride treatments, applying sealants, examining the condition of the mouth, teeth and gums, and educating patients to maintain optimal oral health.

The association was founded in 1923 to unite the dental hygienists of the U.S. and develop a cohesive unit so that the public’s dental health was improved uniformly. Current president Tammi Byrd, who has been a dental hygienist for 27 years, leads ADHA in advancing the science and art of dental hygiene by ensuring access to quality oral health care, increasing awareness of the cost-effective benefits of prevention, promoting the highest standards of dental hygiene education, licensure, practice and research and representing and promoting the interests of dental hygienists.

Overall, dental hygienists provide patients with knowledge on personal oral care often before they are seen by a dentist. Cleanings and check-up frequency vary for different individuals, and it is best to consult the dental hygienist about these.
